The Yellow Bus was launched in Febuary 2002
and is still going strong thanks to local business sponsorship and Runnymede Borough Council funding
When the scheme was launched in February 2002 at Magna Carta School in Egham and Fullbrook School in New Haw, it was first in the South of England to provide dedicated American-style Yellow School Buses.
A new service to Jubilee High School in Addlestone was launched in March 2003 and Salesian School in September 2004.
A further bus was added on September 2005 to service Fullbrook School.
Now the service offers 7 buses in total to serve students travelling to and from all four secondary schools in the Borough.
First operate the Yellow Buses under contract with Runnymede Borough Council.
The fares are two thirds subsidised through funding from RBC and the local business community.
The success of the scheme has been acknowledged by research on the service undertaken by the Department for Transport and has attracted the attention of senior government officials, politicians and national television.
